Meticulous dedication over 1,400 hours has brought us this beautiful recreation of the classic N64 FPS, for the PlayStation 4.
The fan in question is known as Krollywood, and on their humble YouTube channel you’ll find a trailer for their remade GoldenEye 007 creation. The trailer offers a peek at a selection of levels you should recognize from the original, now looking all spruced-up in shiny PlayStation 4 graphics.
According to a statement given to Kotaku, Krollywood meticulously crafted this GoldenEye 007 re-imagining over the course of two and a half years, with roughly 1,400 hours spent on the project in total to date.
Krollywood apparently chose to utilize 2018’s Far Cry 5 level editor because it’s easy to use, and offers “a big variety of levels and styles” thanks to a considerable selection of objects to play around with. You can even include assets from other Ubisoft series like Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs.
The remake apparently includes all 18 levels from the original, and looking at the above trailer, you’ll indeed see that it’s all there (minus the two bonus Aztec and Egypt levels, unfortunately). From the Facility and Runway levels, to the dimly-lit Streets and gorgeous Jungle levels, fans of the 1997 classic will certainly have a lot in the way of eye candy to satisfy their nostalgic itch.
If you’re one of those fans, the good news is that you can try it out yourself right now for free. All you have to do is navigate to the “Solo & Co-op” section of Far Cry 5’s arcade mode, which lets you play levels created by other players. Here, search for the PSN username “Perfect-Dark1982.” You should then get access to a list of the GoldenEye 007 remake levels, all of which are fully playable and packed with lots of detail, and even some Easter eggs.
